A little girl shares what life was like in Uruguay during the military dictatorship. Although too young at the time to understand, she discusses friends and family members being arrested, books banned for being considered controversial (including the Count of Monte Cristo!), and what happened at her school when some students led a protest. Like the protagonist’s best friend, the author of this chapter book was forced to live in exile during the coup.
